Village Saint-Germain-des-Prés – 75006
Posté le 25 January 2017 by Bruno

The Saint-Germain-des-Pres village in the 6th arrondissement incorporates all of the modern thrills of Paris into one spectacular, centrally located neighborhood. To get there, take either metro line 4 or line 10 to the Saint-Germain-des-Pres metro station. It runs alongside Boulevard St. Germain, one of the most famous streets in Paris. A stroll along this historic boulevard proves to be quite an adventure, as the best boutiques and shops such as Giorgio Armani and Christian Dior vie with each other with their eye-catching window displays that attest to the prominence and glamour of the area. Continue walking down the boulevard and you will know when you have reached the Saint-Germain-des-Pres neighborhood. On the right, you will see the famous café, Les Deux Magots, which in the past has been frequented by many intellectuals, writers, and artists, such as Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. Now, it remains a stylish café, and it is hands down one of the most interesting places to grab a cup of espresso with friends. Nearby stands the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, which marks the center of the neighborhood that unfolds into the village’s diverse selection of cool restaurants and other neat spots. One that stands out is the beautiful, romantic Place de Furstenburg, a small square dotted with trees that forms a bit of an island among the small streets of the district. To name another one, it is home to one of the most pristinely beautiful and enjoyable public parks in Paris, le Jardin du Luxembourg, or the Luxembourg Garden, which is the perfect setting for many fun activities, be it strolling through the tree-lined paths, jogging, or simply relaxing in the sunlight by the central pool where people of all ages love to float their sailboats. On the especially active, lively streets, such as Rue de Buci, you will find that there is a healthy blend of locals and tourists and a nice, multicultural feel. This street, among others, also offers some of the best bakeries and restaurants in the area, such as the delicious Carton bakery and the popular le Conti restaurant, which serves delectable sandwiches with the café atmosphere.
